11 February 2025
The PPWR is a European regulation aimed at reducing packaging waste and promoting sustainability, with specific requirements for waste reduction, recyclability and the use of recycled materials. The PPWR will apply to all relevant packaging products, including consumer and industrial packaging - such as pallets and boxes. The PPWR aims to regulate the entire life cycle of packaging products - from design and production to end-of-life.
The PPWR comes into force on 11 February 2025 and although many of its obligations will not apply for 18 months (11 August 2026), stakeholders throughout the supply chain need to start preparing for the PPWR now!
40% of all transport packaging to be reusable by 2030, 70% by 2040
The PPWR requires 40% of all transport packaging to be reusable by 2030, which will be the responsibility of the entire supply chain. This means that packaging manufacturers must produce compliant packaging, which must be used by manufacturers of goods, and finally the end user must ensure that the packaging is returned to the cycle. By 2040, reusability must reach 70%.
Faber Group products and services are reusable!
The nature of the business of the Faber Group and its members IPP, PRS, PAKi and vPOOL is sustainable and contributes to the circular economy. We provide load carriers such as pallets and crates on a reusable basis through our open and closed-loop pool systems. So our customers can be confident that our products and services are well positioned for PPWR when it comes to their load carrier needs.
Still using non-reusable carriers?
If you are still using non-reusable carriers such as one-way pallets, now is the time to switch to the pooling services of IPP, PRS, PAKi or vPOOL! Not only to be ready for PPWR, but also to enjoy all the other benefits of pallet pooling - either closed pooling through IPP or PRS or open pooling with PAKi or vPOOL.
